Trippin' Down the Freeway

Julia, you love to sing. And you rock! Weezer makes some of your favorite music. You know your own version of "Trippin' Down the Freeway" (which has long since been one of yours and Aidan's hot-100 picks...you called it "doggy song" because of the album artwork way back when...).

It has remained one of your faves. I caught a whole version of it on video so I could show you just how much you rock!

April Randomness

So many amazingly big and fun/little things happened in the month of April that I was left with some awesome April memories to share.

Julia, you started really wanting to sleep in your own bed upstairs. You didn't last for any full nights, but gosh darnit, you legit slept in your own bed for about half of 3 nights! 

We got to go to our FIRST White Rock Montessori Picnic  (rained out and conflicts stopped us from going the past two years). You guys had a fabulous, sweaty, sweet time running around with your friends and pretty much the whole school!

Spring sprung, and our yard and garden began to produce fruit and fungi intentional and not... including "those green circles with the pink centers" you guys love so much!

"You know what this is? It's a skeleton of a leaf. It's special. My Aunt Sham told me!"

You guys invented your very own "double decker couch" which you called a "secret hideout bed"...

You continued to practice teamwork...on the playground...

and in the kitchen...

Birthday parties brought out the creativity in the greeting card department, where you practiced your writing and spelling...

I love the way you, Julia, sounded out your friend's card by herself: 'Hap e berf da!'

Also drew a line for her name, labeled it 'nam', and then followed her own instructions

The party was a blast!

Aidan, you created a balloon boy... 

And you both flexed your costume muscles an awful lot!

Art Attack: Part 3- Arts and Crafts and Slime

Our April has had more and more artistic moments, with both of you now fully and totally into expressing your artistic inclinations.

It's great to see, and so wonderful to behold.

Another glimpse into your minds and abilities; a window into your brain at this age.

This moment, you asked for privacy, so you could work on your projects. The awesome thing is that this was all your idea. Julia, you're typically always wanting to color or paint and that's fantastic. Aidan, you typically don't want to do these kinds of activities unprompted....but you were both on the same page today and were hard at work behind closed doors:

These projects and more continued over the next couple of weekends:

The plane needed decals, and Julia you found your 'thumbprint decorating kit.'

Then, we went to Michael's to blur the arts and crafts and mess line by making some grade A slime!

I love watching you two create... your mother and I are so proud of you both, our young artists!

Art Attack 2: All's Fair





When your Aunt Sham scores tickets to an exclusive art creation day at the Nasher Sculpture Center in Downtown Dallas, you go!

And you have fun! 



And we did!

Mommy was working the fair with Aunt Sham, so the three of us set off and headed downtown. First thing you guys saw was an installation that involved some sort of giant looking crab-lobster. You guys were fascinated by this guy!

Then we joined the fair and each of you found several stations that interested you immensely:

Aidan, you loved the hat-making station:

...and sat in the sun eating a rapidly melting popsicle!

We all got pretty sweet Nasher tattoos!

Julia, you liked Aunt Sham's 'patch-making' station:

They had wooden color-em-up Legos, which you LOVED, Aidan!

Julia, you were on a mission to paint a doll AND a hand puppet, and they both turned out so cool!

There was room to run around free:

And plenty of opportunities to bust-a-move:

Even when I thought y'all were done, you found more art to make. Aidan, you delighted in making a monster head!

We said good-bye to the lobster monster...thank you to Aunt Sham...

...and headed to the Klyde Warren park for a bit of splashing around!

We had such a fun time that day: I was so impressed with your individual interest in different activities, and artistic self-expression. And, I could have danced all night with you!
