We all scream for Mimi

One beautiful spring Saturday afternoon, Mimi joined us for karate and then a trip to White Rock Lake for a playground date.

Aidan and Julia, you had such a sweet time with your grandma (my mommy!). You smelled the flowers, showed off, played spaceship with her, played "shop" with her ("what you wanna buy" -- Julia), and generally had a blast.

Julia, you showed off your strength of body- climbing to great heights unassisted in Jellies.

Aidan, you showed off your strength of spirit- socializing and making friends with everyone else on the playground. You even convinced some of your new friends to share their balloons with you!

A sweet afternoon turned even sweeter when we heard "all around the mulberry bush" start to play...it was an ICE CREAM TRUCK! I typically play the whole "I have no money" card (because I'm cold and sugar blah blah blah); but Mimi is a much cooler customer and asked you both if you'd like to buy some ice cream from the ice cream truck!

Of course, you said YES! (and Thank you!)

Aidan, you chose the Spider-man ice cream immediately and without hesitation.

Julia, you chose the Wonder-woman ice cream. Which didn't exist. After a brief explanation that you had to choose from the pictures on the side of the truck, you readily picked a Hello Kitty.

Mimi and I shared an ice cream sandwich!

Kisses for Mimi.

'ICE CREAM!!!!!'

Aidan, you wore more of your ice cream than you ate. And were not a fan of the blue parts of Spider-man or his gumball eyeballs. Julia, Hello Kitty was no match for you.

Later that night Aidan, you told you Spider-man pajamas that his eyeballs were yucky and you didn't like the red part, but that the blue part was delicious.

Mimi had to go home to prepare for Molly's baby-naming ceremony (baking cookies), and we gave her sticky hugs and kisses goodbye.

And we had a lovely rest of our afternoon down by the lake-side and playing.

It was a sweet afternoon with such a sweet lady: your Mimi.

Frozen... on Ice

There's no doubt that we -like most families in the world over the pad two years- have a case of Frozen fever that just won't quit. Just when you think it's over and you have Rapunzelitis or BigHero6baymax flu or Frog prince pox, Frozen fever comes roaring back. A new Elsa doll here, just add it to the pile of frozen dolls -and gloves- you sleep with, Julia. (You call them your 'frozies'). We get you to let us out your hair up by asking if you want hair like Anna. You introduce yourself as 'the princess Julia,' and you run around singing the song 'let it go.'

When that song comes on the radio... daddy is politely asked not to sing...despite his obvious talents. Or Olaf - aka snowloff- pajamas make a comeback in your PJ rotation, Aidan....

J: why are you wearing those pajamas, aidy?

A: because... I like frozen!

I think it's safe to say we all like frozen.  And we like yogurt. And we like frozen yogurt, which we call 'hard yogurt.' And so when y'all's hard yogurt company - organic stonyfield's yo kids yogurt- announced on a wrapper that it was presenting Disney's Frozen on Ice and that we could get discounted tickets due to the enormous amount of yogurt you guys consume, it was a no brainier! Yes! Frozen...on ice!!! Let's go! Mommy had to explain, much to your dismay Julia, that you weren't really going to go ice skating with Elsa and Anna.

So, this afternoon, the two of you rode the train with mommy to the American Airlines center arena (your second trip on the train!) and I drove straight from work, and we all met for magical, frozen, ice skating, popcorn consuming, merchandise purchasing, really very cute and well done adventure.

Julia, you were curiously but quietly watching the whole show... Hardly uttering a word or an excited whoop or hollar.

Aidan, you were so excited that you could hardly contain yourself, screaming for goofy and mickey, asking where the characters went when the warren on the ice (where's Olaf? Where's Anna!'). Aidan you screamed, cheered, lit up your spinning light-up Olaf thing (which was later exchanged for a plus Olaf) and sang along.

Julia, you inquisitively watched from my lap, hugging your rapunzel tightly. At the end you said that 'yes' you liked it. Then you got all excited and started skipping all over the place. There was snow and fireworks, flips and a giant inflatable abominable snowman. There was popcorn and clapping and buzz and woody showed up too for some reason (aidan, you screamed loudly for buzz...but we all did too...he was really into it.)

But, the best thing of all, was the true love...

...and the warm hugs.

Update: Julia, this morning you told us that you had a dream...about Frozen on Ice. You said that the Snow Monster was skating without ice shoes. This is very observant! The Snow Monster was a remote control inflatable thingy (which made a bunch of kids- but not you!- cry)...but it didn't have skates. But, you also told us that in your dream, Baby Sawyer was in the show, but he also didn't have ice shoes. But all the kids did. And you did.
