Julia, when you set your mind on something, it gets done! So one Saturday, you came up with an idea!
"Let's build some drums!"
And you and I put our heads together and creativity on high alert...we used LOTS of boxes and tape and some beads and coins and a shampoo bottle and rubber band and ...holy smokes... we built some drums!
Your brother even joined in for the painting!
The end result was a HIT (get it?) for everyone!

I love being creative with you and this is certainly a cymbol of our love and creativity!
Julia, a few weeks ago you started asking for something very interesting: a tablet.
We asked you what you wanted one for, since you don't really like to play with the iPad like Aidan does.
You said you wanted one - even one that doesn't work- to buy a pretty case for and play pretend with.
I offered you one of the near-dead iPads. But you didn't want one of those. You wanted a silver tablet...to play pretend with.
A few days passed.
Then, your Mom and I were talking in the kitchen when a scroll appeared on the counter.
What was inside was 100% written, spelled, and conceived by you. And took us by surprise!
Later, the notes appeared taped to the computer screen with one additional letter.
Your tactics sound, your motivation clear, your cuteness and puppy-dog eyes off the charts...
...your mother came up with a great idea: you could MAKE one.
And so, the weekend came and you got right to it. You chose not to walk the dogs or go to the playground, because you wanted to stay home and work on your tablet. All day Saturday you spent working with Mommy: cutting, paper mache, drawing, coloring, gluing, researching...and you created your very own, amazingly awesome, Julia-imagination powered TABLET!

You were so careful in which apps you wanted.
You picked "Tuesday the 5th" for your calendar because "Tuesdays are when Aunt Sham used to pick me up from school and we had so much fun. Tuesdays are the best.!"
Later that week on a walk you asked me if I had my phone. I said no. You said "Good thing I put the phone and text messages on my Tablet!"
Saturday afternoon you spent your allowance and ordered a pink tablet case to go along with it!
Saturday night at dinner you came up to mommy with a concern: the case will prop the tablet up horizontally...but the tablet screen won't automatically re-orient itself. So Mommy suggested that you make a NEW horizontal-oriented tablet screen on the back of the tablet you already made.
You were so gung-ho about it that you spent a lot of Sunday morning and Monday afternoon hard at work!
And you even inspired Aidan to work on one too!
You are so creative, so dedicated, so driven, and so amazing, young lady! There's an app for all that: it's called Julia version 5.0!
On a very special Thursday, we all dressed up and headed to school to see the White Rock Montessori 2018 Art Fair!
Yaya, Baba, Uncle Joe, Aunt Sham, Mimi, Pops, and even Aunt Rebekka and Molly joined us at the school to check out the very cool artwork the two of you have been making this year in your classrooms and in art class with your very cool art teacher Miss Holly (aka, Mommy).
Julia, you were super excited to show Molly your school, and introduce her to everyone in the school!
This was also a big year because it was Mommy's first Art Fair as the art teacher at school!
The theme was "under the sea!"
Aidan, you made an amazing blue frogfish out of clay!
Julia, your main piece for the show was an awesome mommy and baby mermaid fashioned out of papier mache!
We saw other amazing works, and other amazing friends, and other amazing works about amazing friends.
I am so inspired by my creative, artistic and amazing family!
And...if you telling us you were excited and have been excited and are excited isn't enough of an indicator, you recently skyrocketing writing skills can give us some more clues!

You were willing and ready and excited to go to school on your birthday (as you are most days!). I asked you to do a "Birthday Girl Pose" and this is clearly IT, as you did it twice!

You wanted to make your own cake, so you and Mama did!

Mommy made you this awesome Journal, which you've been coloring every day!
We didn't have to wait too long to find a nice day to try out Sparkles. You and Aidan scooted down the hill, you quickly got the hang of it, which you told your scooter many times ("We're getting the hang of it, girl!"
And of course, you two found froggies!
Insert pun: So, I guess you had a happy and a HOPPY birthday.
My dearest Julia, who always claims with a smile on her face to never get my jokes, I read the following to you on your birthday, and I'm putting it here for you now, so you can read it. It's very long, and a bit sentimental, but in short...it all means the following:
And just like that she's FIVE...our Julia has taken to writing like a bird to flight, filling page after page with her notes, writing books, and comic books, and a diary. She loves wrestling, and reading, and her bike (which she has named "Lady Glitter Sparkles"). She loves animals, she loves her brother, and her family. She's afraid of Cicada shells (not cicadas), and adults in mascot-style costumes. She loves all things sparkly and or shiny. She has a collection of old keys, and a collection of sea shells, and a collection of business cards and 'important' papers. She's working on not tattling and table manners and not telling so many "bathroom" jokes. She has a hell of a "demon voice", and loves to play "baby" and "family." Today she asked me to help her build a clubhouse in our back yard, but told me she asked her gardening teacher to come help because, well, he's the gardening teacher. She hates getting caught doing something naughty and she can lie with a straight face a bit too easily sometimes. She loves pepperoni pizza (but not the crusts, which she feeds to her brother) and cheese, even of the stinky variety. She doesn't like ice cream or cake, but she likes the icing. She likes the hamburger, but not the bun (so she licks off the cheese and the mustard, and feeds the bread to her brother). She wants to be an archaeologist when she grows up...or a dancer. She is our Julia, and she's one of a kind, and she is amazing. We love her so much. So, if you see her, wish her a happy birthday!
