4.5

I was about to head out for a run on a brisk, but not too cold, Saturday morning.

You said "can I ride my bike with you while you run?"

It had been a while since we tried this. And you've gotten so much better at the bike. So I said "YES!"

We packed up the car, headed down to the Bath House at the Lake and started our ride/run!

It was a LOT of fun!

We talked and chatted and talked about life and all sorts of things a long the way. I know that's not specific, but the specifics have vanished into the ether, and that's left is the warm glow of talking with you.

You rode so proudly, and rang your bell.

Passersby cheered you on, much to your delight.

We rode and rode, much longer than I thought you would want to. But you didn't want to turn back until we hit the bridge.

We saw the big bridge over the lake, and we conquered it.

You sped down to the other side, and we kept going!

Over more trails and bridges we went together, happily moving along towards nothing in particular.

We stopped many times. For water, to look at interesting sticks and sites in the water. To check out the birds, and practice reading on the "birds of white rock lake" sign.

You even stopped when you eagle-eye spotted some horseshoe prints in the sand! You deduced which way the horses were heading, we asked some other bikers if they saw the horses. They confirmed your deduction and we tried to find them. But, alas, they had already clip-clopped too far away.

We decided to turn around. And it was kind of poetic too. Because there, across the lake, was the white Bath House building where we started!

We headed back, back through the 'bird poop' area... (pardon the smell)

 ....back up the hill...

and then back home to Mommy and Aidan.

When all was said and done, we went 4 and a half miles! You could not wait to tell your Mommy three things.

1) We went 4 and a half miles!
2) You saw horseshoe prints!
3) We went over the big bridge!

We were sore the next day. But we had a blast. And I can't wait to do it again.

I want to ride my bicycle!

Over Thanksgiving, you guys got early Hanukkah/Christmas presents: Your Big-kid BIKES! And you are doing SO well on them!

Julia, every chance you get, you want to ride your bike!

Cold Weather:

Warm weather:

Between spins:

You are a bike-riding machine! And you're doing so well! You make up little games we can play like "baseball racers" (which involves an invisible ball and the bike and you and me) and you love making your "own path." You narrated your entire bike riding experience to Mommy as you were doing it. And you can't wait to do it again! You fell. You cried. You got back on. You are awesome.

You named your bike "Sparkles Snowflakes." And you right sparkles snowflake bike UP and DOWN and all around!

Aidan, you are an awesome bike rider. Despite one of your first experiences being immediately clipping the curb in our drive way and "Superman" flying off the hill into Andy and Penny's yard (you aced the landing, by the way, and didn't shed a tear, and immediately got back on), you are growing into a confident, awesome bike rider.

You sometimes require a little bribery via Swedish Fish to pique your interest, but once we're down at the Church Parking lot at the end of the hill, you love riding your bike. Although, sometimes at the parking lot, you just like to look for frogs.

Julia named your bike "ICE." And you and ICE are some of the coolest guys in town!

We did our first trip down the hill with both of you on bikes, and you did awesome. We saw a policeman and said hi.

We looked for frogs. We went UP and DOWN. We made our own paths.

We raced to the dumpster (which smells like bacon and garbage). We ate swedish fish. We rode to the playground. You rode your bikes. And it was awesome.

More adventures come! Pedal to the metal!

Thankful

I have so much to be Thankful for this year. And every year. I am eternally thankful for your mother, Holly, who is my wife, my best friend, and my partner. I am thankful for you, Julia, for your ingenuity, precociousness, fierceness, your creativity, and dedication. I am thankful for you, Aidan, for your perseverance, your unstoppable spirit, your ability to forgive, your strength, and your sensitivity. I am so grateful that the three of you love me for who I am, despite my flaws. And I'm so Thankful that I got to take off like 8 days to be with you guys non-stop, and you didn't kick me out of the house immediately.

Over Thanksgiving break, we had time and leisure to be thankful for so much...

Thankful for sidewalk chalk and driveway fun...

Thankful for your adventurousness, as we headed down to explore the creek by our playground:

Thankful for your creativity and storytelling, Julia! You even made a book!

I'm thankful for our family. For Mimi and Pops. For Yaya and Baba. For Gigi and Pa. For Aunt Nessa and Aunt Chrissy. For Aunt Sham, Uncle Joe, Aunt Rebekka, Aunt Deborah, Uncle Dana, and Uncle Taff and their families.

We were blessed enough to spend Thanksgiving in Dallas with some of our closest family...aka the Turkeys at home!

I'm thankful for the puzzle masters and the love and cooperation you two demonstrate every day.

I'm thankful for leftovers, and that we have enough to eat every day!

I'm Thankful for your willingness to try new things, including your new big kid bikes!

I'm thankful for your desire to learn new things, Aidan, and your desire and drive to win.

I'm thankful for the buddies you guys have made in your life so far, and our friends too.

I'm thankful for our furry friends- who are always there for us. Including Preston who was not feeling well; but who you two were so kind to and nurtured back to health.

I'm thankful for beautiful weather, which enables fall-day Popsicles.

I'm thankful for neighbors who can share laughter and fun.

...and I'm thankful for your amazing Mama, who climbs the roof to make our days and nights a little brighter.

I'm thankful for bouncing, and scaling, and dodging and all of the amazing things you two can do, and all you are learning.

Thankful for movie nights...

I'm thankful for life, and the fact that I get to share mine with so many amazing people, including you Aidan and you Julia.
