Nine Nights- Hanukkah 2018

Hanukkah, oh Hanukkah! You crazy old holiday! We such a blast with 8 nights of Hanukkah over the past several years, that this year we decided to buck tradition and do NINE nights!

We celebrated with just the four of us, we celebrated with Indy, Johnny, and Alanna (friends from school), we celebrated with Mimi and Pops, we celebrated with the Shockleys, we celebrated with our neighbors Sarah and Matthew, and we celebrated with Mimi and Pops again-- this time with the whole Shields family!

Nine amazing nights full of latkes, candles, brisket, family, presents, presence, singing our favorite songs, playing dreidel (like actual dreidel with coins and all), and togetherness.

Warm nights by the candles, with family, and donuts....is there anything better?

Some fun memories stand out:

- Sharing and trying our gift to Pops of buying black licorice gift with pops.... (Aidan you spit it out and Pops ate it anyway; Julia you tried it, and liked it...you said it tasted like Mommy's oils...but you later told me that you didn't really like it, but you pretended to because it made Pops happy).

- How energetically you guys sing the prayers and the songs...and how you, Julia, asked me "How come we know all the words and you dont?"

-Post Hanukkah dance party with Korah and Teddy!

DREIDEL!

Board-game night brought two of our now-favorite family games to our home: 5-minute Marvel AND Dixit! Which we spent many an afternoon playing...even by the 'fireplace.'

- The holiday cards you made, replete with shimmering menorahs!

- Wrestling, stacking, and playing with the Shields for a fantastic final night!

- And...of course...recreating your first friends hannukah PJ pal picture!

Then...

...and now....

In the window where you can see the glow...

Hanukkah 2017

Oh Hanukkah, Oh Hannukkah, Come light the Menorah!

Hug your Mimi...

Hug your Pops...

Pose for a photo:

And check out the clubhouse they got for you, nestled near the tree tops:

Eat delicious latkes and brisket...

Play dreidel...if you want to risk it!

Give gifts and kind notes...

Play some more games...

...read a few books...

...and shake your money maker in your new puffy coats:

Light the menorah with loved ones each night...

and we-as parents- watch when new books are met with delight...

Play with your family, try out your new toys:

And celebrate Hanukkah, with Jews and with Goys!

Write notes about your clubhouse, and wait for warmer days.

Party with your cousins and grandparents, wrestles and plays.

Oh Hanukkah, Oh Hanukkah, come light the menorah.

And gather with family to make memories and giggles... a plethora!

One of our neighbors asked you later, Julia, what your favorite present was. And you said "Um...spending time with my family and my cousin!"

And that's what it truly is all about. Yes, there are gifts and presents. But the greatest gift is the presence-- of Aidan, and Julia, of Mimi and Pops, of Rebekka, and Molly, and Ross, and me and Mommy! And Yaya and Baba and Joe and Sham even joined us for a night!

We love to give you gifts.

And we know that you'll like some, and be okay with others.

But, truly, I hope you will love the greatest gift of all. The greatest gift we have to give. And that is togetherness!

Or is it donuts with dinner? I can't remember which is better. Probably the donuts, with togetherness as a close second.

Happy Hanukkah!!!
