The Acting Bug: The Emerald Orb

Oh boy! Oh man! Did we ever find a cool place! Right in our neighborhood, there's a little place called "East Dallas Arts." We'd seen it right across from Kroger for over a year, we didn't realize what it was. But your friend Ellie's mom told us about it...it's a theater...for kids...and they're doing acting camps all summer long!

You had never done formal acting before, but we've had plenty of experience in the Purple Curtain Theater.

We asked you guys if you wanted to do an acting camp, and before we even finished the question you excitedly said YES!!

So we signed you up!

We walked there every morning!

During this camp, you and your friends came up with a story and characters for a play. Mr. Tom (the director) took your ideas and  turned it into a script.

Julia, you were RUBY, an elf princess (very on brand!)

Aidan, you were GOODAN, a goo-based warrior (very on brand!)

You guys practiced your lines every night and built your costumes!

You were having so much fun and the week went by in the blink of an eye.

Lines were learned and practiced and perfected. The audience filed in, the lights went dark, and then it was showtime.

It was time for THE EMERALD ORB!

The show was amazing because you all worked so hard on it and had so much fun! Wow! Bravo!

Amazing!

You guys had SO much fun that you didn't want it to end.

At East Dallas Arts for the next TWO weeks of FULL day camp, they were putting on a musical... MADAGASCAR JR.

We asked you guys if you wanted to do it... and before we even finished the question you excitedly said YES!!

Julia's Performance Piece

After Aidan and I got back from a weekend doing some Hiking Laser Bearing, and Julia and Mommy got back from a weekend at Yaya and Baba's, the two kids were ready to get back to hanging out and being together.

You two quickly got to business, wrestling, talking, catching up, and doing some creative works outside on the deck.

Aidan, you and I were pretty wiped out from our weekend in the woods, but Julia, you got an AMAZING burst of energy, agency, and creativity.

You ran into the house, emerged in a costume...

...brought one for Aidan...

...and then hopped in a tree before crashing on mommy's lap and watching what happened next with as much wonder and amazement as the rest of us...

For about 45 minutes, Julia, you conceptualized, practiced, practiced, and repeated your production over and over and over again.

"1, 2, 3...follow me...march this way...girls curtsy, boys bow. Follow me. 1, 2, 3"

We watched in amazement as you perfected your performance, and then willingly joined in as you invited us to the stage.

Your creativity, your passion, your energy on full display. You are a magical fairy butterfly, Julia. And I pray that you never forget that.

Rainy, Cold February Weekend

Friday night you two came home with lunch plans, shopping lists, puppets of yourselves, and a lot of big ideas for the weekend.

While Mommy was at school on Saturday we had a dance party, and then went to the green spot so Julia could see Girl Scout Cookies with her troop. Aidan, you and I were VERY willing customers.

We went to Subway for lunch, and we got free sandwiches...because there was a dead rat in the store! Julia you screamed when you saw it, Aidan you thought it looked liked Desperaux (the main character of a book you were reading at school). You both mused on how you'd never seen one before. I hadn't either. So...we have that in common. Free lunch!

Then, Julia went to a playdate with Zoey and Ellie, Aidan you and I played chess (you won) and then we played a game you made up called "pretend chess" (you won too!)

Sunday was another funday. Julia, you set up a spy kit:

Then you tackled Mommy!

While Aidan was on a playdate with the Larson boys, Julia had a private ukulele lesson...from me! We learned two ukulele chords approximating John Lennon's Imagine!

We picked Aidan up and reunited. No matter the weather, no matter the excursions, no matter the temperature, we all can seek shelter together, in the warm, loving arms of our dear, dear family.

The Magic Spy

We heard some noises coming from upstairs.

Then you emerged, Julia, with pretend money in-hand. You distributed the money, and told us to use it to buy our tickets to see "the show" you had created.

So Mommy, Aidan, and I bought our tickets to the show, waited for the ticket taker to run upstairs and get into 'costume and character' for her big debut.

And then...the show started!

And then...the RULES for the show were presented.

And THEN the show really started.

It became an interactive affair; and was your longest Purple Curtain Theater production yet.

So much creativity and amazingess...5 stars! The audiences loved the show!

I proudly present... a Julia Weinstein production...live from the Purple Curtain Theater...

The Magic Spy!

Super Awesome Snowy Sunny Birthday Weekend

I turned 35 on a Friday. You both didn't have school. So I took the day off. And I am SO glad I did!

Like all good birthday parties, there was face painting (by your Mama)!

Then, for my birthday, obviously, you guys wanted to take me to Jumpstreet! As we left, it started to snow! So we played in the snowflakes, and then bounced a bunch!

By the time we were ready to leave Jumpstreet, it was a bona fide SNOW DAY out there! So we frolicked in the snow even more!

Mama re-joined us and then we went to dinner all together!

My birthday weekend continued with some amazing fun and food!

There was a trip to the theatre:

...the playground...

...and a super-duper cool restaurant, which inspired you BOTH to be chefs, called Benihana!

Thank you for a wonderful birthday weekend! You made my wishes come true!
