Sick Day; Getting Better

One Tuesday morning, we awoke to find you sick, Julia. Mommy and I were both a bit stressed out. We both had meetings that afternoon. We both were trying to figure out if the other person could stay home with you. We both got super duper even more stressed out when, as we were trying to figure this out, Preston took a big whole POOP on the floor! So, we understand that from your POV, we looked upset at you. But we weren't.

Alas, you disappeared as we figured it out, and I got out of my meeting, and I determined that I would stay home with you gladly.

When you reappeared, you delivered this note to me:

I keep this note taped to my wall at my office to remind me to be a better dad every day. I explained to you that I wasn't mad at you. And mommy wasn't mad at you. And you have nothing to be sorry about. And that I did. We were stressed with the dog poop and the situation, not you.

So I worked from home, and I had the BEST sick-but-getting-better-steadily-throughout-the-day-co-worker of ALL TIME.

I got a lot of work done.

So did you:

I am so glad you were my at-home-co-worker for the day.

And thank you for frgiving me for seeming to be mad at you (which I wasn't :) ).

I love you. Always and forever.

Rainy, Cold February Weekend

Friday night you two came home with lunch plans, shopping lists, puppets of yourselves, and a lot of big ideas for the weekend.

While Mommy was at school on Saturday we had a dance party, and then went to the green spot so Julia could see Girl Scout Cookies with her troop. Aidan, you and I were VERY willing customers.

We went to Subway for lunch, and we got free sandwiches...because there was a dead rat in the store! Julia you screamed when you saw it, Aidan you thought it looked liked Desperaux (the main character of a book you were reading at school). You both mused on how you'd never seen one before. I hadn't either. So...we have that in common. Free lunch!

Then, Julia went to a playdate with Zoey and Ellie, Aidan you and I played chess (you won) and then we played a game you made up called "pretend chess" (you won too!)

Sunday was another funday. Julia, you set up a spy kit:

Then you tackled Mommy!

While Aidan was on a playdate with the Larson boys, Julia had a private ukulele lesson...from me! We learned two ukulele chords approximating John Lennon's Imagine!

We picked Aidan up and reunited. No matter the weather, no matter the excursions, no matter the temperature, we all can seek shelter together, in the warm, loving arms of our dear, dear family.

Getting Back Home: Late January

Ah....home sweet home...

After three weeks living with Mimi/Pops and Yaya/Baba while our floors were being redone, we were finally able to move back home. And- not that we didn't have fun with our family- but it feels good to be home and get back to our regularly scheduled programming.

Not to say that there wasn't work to do...

You guys have been huge helps in the remodel, you even put together IKEA furniture...

...set up the entertainment system...

...do whatever this is with whatever those are...

...and make sure the storage container is empty empty empty:

Despite a few differences in our landscape, it felt good to get back to our home.

can you spot the kiddos?

And...while we were still in transition we had some open spaces and open drawers and took advantage of both:

You were pleased to get back to your playground...

...back to our sunshiney house...and our old rooms...even if we didn't use the bed all the time..

...and to visit some of our old haunts, like the zoo:

So...now we're back home...and able to do some monkeying around...

Despite getting nipped in the butt on the remodel and unpacking from time to time...

In general, it just feels good to get back to hanging around without having to live out of a trunk.
